I was not aware that she was legendary in that sense—rewriting entertainment and making huge decisions regarding American television. How did you find out that young?

Being amusing and entertaining allowed her to captivate audiences across America. I was probably in elementary school when I first saw her on my step-grandmothers television screen. My grandma loved family drama and I loved seeing her head fly back in amusement as Lucy did something crazy again.

This post is a good reminder. 🤍

I was interested in very odd things as a child and Lucille Ball was at the top of my list lol!

I’m happy it brought back those memories. Thank you🤍

You gave me those good old Matilda vibes 📚☺️. It never dawned on me to research her character.

She had a positive impact on womanhood and I’m glad she is being celebrated.

I Love Lucy, and I loved this essay, Caroline. Good for you for writing off your history teacher’s advice and following your instincts. A lot of people are unaware of the side of Lucy that you wrote about here. She was brilliant in so many different ways.

This is why I know we are friends. Because kindred spirit Lucy lovers find each other. She was and is one of the most inspiring celebrities I have ever known. This was a magnificent tribute to a really special person.

And your insight about joy is spot on. It’s something I didn’t really believe but now, a (tiny) bit older and wiser, I understand how revolutionary joy can be.

It absolutely pulls us together!! And makes us extra cool.

A few year ago, my friends and I went to the movies because they were playing a few episodes on the big screen. It infused the room with joy, even all these years after its creation

Had no idea of what she accomplished after she took over Desilu, so inspiring! She was a fine example of someone who did not hear "no", and in fact just made sure that what she brought to the table was SO GOOD that "no" wasn't an option.

I'm very pro - Caroline saves the world. Let me know when you have merch.💕

But how is it possible that people actually told her no?!? That’s insane to me. Yes, always!!

I’ll be thinking of you Monday (I think I’ve got the day right) and hopefully have some merch designs to show you! 💗

“If they’re beautiful, we assume they lack substance. If they’re messy, we pathologize them as unstable. If they’re loud, we exile them as “too much.” And if they make us laugh — if they’re sharp enough to hold a room hostage with their wit — we dismiss it as a party trick, a distraction from the “real” work.” 💥💥💥 YES!!! Lucille Ball will always own a piece of my heart. Many, many late nights were spent with Lucy and Ethel through the ages of 11-15. I knew Lucy & Desi’s great granddaughter. She was the sweetest girl and never mentioned her mega famous great grandparents once. I found out YEARS later (only because she wrote an article) and was floored. (Sadly she died from cancer at 31 😞)

But I love all these little connections that we have. Thanks Lucy and Ethel 💗✨🥰

I think she really broke barriers in acting with her comedy. It was soooo good. So many of the old dramas had acting that was story driven and seemed somewhat unrealistic. I don’t know all of the proper acting terms. But she took it all to a new level but through comedy. The acting we see today, I think a lot of it was influenced by Lucy.
