Always, there’s consolation in that! 🤍

I, too, have been on the slow end of a leash that dragged me out of the depths of darkness. Abbi used to take me on runs and walks, and nearly separated shoulder every time she saw a squirrel. I didn't always appreciate the face slaps and the food demands, but they were a small trade for the happiness and love she gave. Please give Delilah an ear scratch or nose boop from me.

Delilah 2024!

Oh my! Yes!! Such a small trade in comparison! I will have you know that her grandmother sent her $40 yesterday as an Easter treat and she picked out some really items! 🤍

Grandmother's are the best!! That is awesome!!! Did she get some new toys or did she spend it all in the treat aisle?

Bullfrog toy that shoots its legs out when you squeeze him, balls, and many treats!! Soiled beyond belief!

As is right and proper. 😀 Also, love that you named the bullfrog Jeremiah.

Enlightenment through animals. They contain wisdom that puts our intellect in place. Humility, compassion & mindfulness. Sarah’s cats teach us that. Thanks for this wonderful share ❤️

Caroline, your words moved me. I could feel the tenderness and soul-love you have for Delilah but equally the ravaging emptiness she pulled you from. Beautiful beautiful words.

I have found overlap to be helpful.

Katie was my best friend. The one I was unable to leave without. Always here, in my heart. But Greta is truly awesome. Not Katie, but still, awesome.

Wow! This was so beautiful. The way you crafted the words and made it feel like they were just pouring forth and dancing on the page of their own accord, led by the stirrings of your soul. I found this so moving, despite not being a dog person, an animal person actually (I never grew up with pets, please don’t judge me!). I don’t often get time these days to read much on Substack, but I’m so glad I read this today.❤️

Beautiful essay. A lot of truth in there! I’m so glad that you broke free from depression. I’ve been there and I think those in the midst of it need to know there is an end to it. A way out where joy awaits. Your dog is cool! I’m sure Delilah is overjoyed to be by your side. What a blessing your writing is to so many. Happy Easter!

Billy, thank you so much!! Yes, we all need the reminders that everything ends.

We had a lazy Easter Sunday where she was greatly spoiled. lol

Ah, dogs... They are truly the best. My Henry is not the most well behaved, but when he looks at me with those big eyes I really don't care. He is wonderful! ❤️

At this point, I think I prefer dogs that don’t listen! We’re always flying by the seat of our pants 😂

Oh, so beautiful, the love the cracks you open beyond doing all the "right things." I know the experience well, and as we've come to see, our histories share quite a few threads. Thank you for this gorgeous love letter, and reminder of the magic of presence and purpose and connection and feeling.

Also, I am laughing at the plain white T's reference
