"I watch I Love Lucy and The Golden Girls until I hear the witty banter in complete silence."
such a poignant way to describe with deceptive simplicity the emotional association and resonance of those experiences which transport us, where our attentions are multi-tasked....i would have used an entire paragraph to beat people on the head with that idea lol
how a southern girl gets autumn down so good will remain an intriguing mystery
-- “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is in flower.” I love this reflection, especially because only one is clearly not enough for me, haha!! I love your perspective, and how it highlights the inward journeys we experience through every single season, every single sensation, every single sunrise. Thank you, C. Xo.
Beautiful words as always, Caroline. I love the way seasons shape our lives, I love the ticking forwards, I love the way we remain so captivated by the changes, it’s never not amazing to see the shift. We’re in spring here and my favourite night; warm enough to sit outside and just look up, scent of wisteria, inky sky, dog barking three streets away, smell of neighbour’s dinner cooking, is finally here. It makes my heart sing after a long winter.
Ohhh that sounds like heaven! I’m so glad we’re both taking advantage of the seasons. I just made pumpkin bread and a lasagna soup! Thank you for being here ❤️❤️❤️
Your writing is so beautiful and evokes so many feelings and memories in my own heart and mind. Thank you for this beautiful piece. I am just starting to come around to all this autumn love so this could not have come at a better time.
This is so nostalgic! We have to wait a little longer for fall here in southern California. There is a chill in the air and the marine layer hangs around a little longer, but there always seems to be one more heat wave before the season fully changes. I never believe it's really fall until Halloween.
Thinking of my favorite bit of dialogue from Mad Men:
“Nostalgia - its delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek nostalgia literally means 'the pain from an old wound.' It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone...It let’s us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved.”
For us Jews, the New Year is based on the ancient rhythms of the harvest.
The dominant celebratory ingredients from a food perspective are apples dipped in honey and in our family, a massive "pop-up" honey cake production, my wife's specialty. Flowers are still available to dress our table with their own visual feast.
Thanks for this post, because it raises my appreciation for fall and for the variety of the seasons in general.

I could repeat full episodes without ever watching them again, but I always watch them again. Thank you!

It’s the greatest season! I feel alive and anew...and yet so connected to the past. Thank you, always ❤️
you mean springs or leafs? or hmmmmm reflections? lol
Spring is fine. Autumn is everything.
-- I mean Spring! But it also works for flowers, reflections and C's essays 💚.

Just purchased lessons in chemistry!
Yay! Let me know what you think!

We will wait until Bruce is older and then start a nationwide campaign to change this.
January, after I’ve spent all my money on gifts and travel...it’s a travesty.

Pop-up honey cake sounds like something I desperately need! Thank you, David!
